A report from Italian outlet Il Giorno claims that Atalanta are intent on raiding Leeds United to sign Willy Gnonto in the summer – but in order to land the Elland Road favourite they will have to sell Duvan Zapata, which helps Everton.
Gnonto, 19, won his ninth Italy cap on Thursday night as he came off the bench in Italy’s 2-1 defeat to England in Naples. It comes after starring for Leeds this season – having a hand in seven goals in the space of just 20 games.
Given his early form in a Leeds shirt, clubs have come calling. 90Min say Atalanta are one of five heavyweights from Serie A eyeing a move, while Gazzetta Dello Sport say Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested.
The latest report strengthens Atalanta’s interest in Gnonto. Atalanta sit in sixth place in the top tier of Italian football and are just three points off of Champions League qualification. They will be looking to strengthen this summer.
Renowned for their attacking style under Gian Piero Gasperini, Gnonto may feel Atalanta is the perfect club for him to join – start most games and shine. Look at Ademola Lookman. But the report claims such a move helps Everton.
