Andoni Iraola was not considered for the Leeds United job this time round after he was confirmed as Bournemouth’s new manager on Monday.
That is according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, who report despite him being a key target to replace Jesse Marsch back in February, he was never in contention for the current position.
After leaving Rayo Vallecano at the end of the season, Iraola was appointed Bournemouth boss yesterday despite interest from Almeria and Marseille.
The 40-year-old is set to succeed Gary O’Neil in the dugout at the Vitality Stadium after his very surprise sacking just hours before Iraola’s arrival was finalised.
O’Neil was among the managers of the season last term after guiding Bournemouth to Premier League survival against the odds.
Iraola never considered for Leeds job
After rejecting Almeria, reports had began to gather pace that Iraola was once again in the frame for the vacant position at Leeds.
However, those appear to be wide of the mark with Leeds’ relegation to the Championship last month all but putting an end to their hopes of bringing in someone of Iraola’s calibre.
Leeds remain in the hunt for their next manager ahead of the start of pre-season on July 2, with the club hopeful of wrapping up the process this week.
Daniel Farke, Carlos Corberan and Scott Parker have been mentioned as Leeds’ three top targets, while Patrick Vieira also entered the frame yesterday.
After initial calls last week, interviews are taking this week with the intention of making a decision in the coming days so Leeds can begin their player recruitment drive.
