Leeds United completed the signing of Sam Byram on a free transfer earlier today.
And according to Leeds Live reporter Beren Cross, Byram will be available for selection against Cardiff City in Leeds’ Championship opener at Elland Road.
Byram put pen-to-paper on a one-year deal at Elland Road to return for a second spell at the club he spent several years with at the beginning of his career.
The 29-year-old has been rewarded with a deal at Leeds after impressing in pre-season having initially only been invited to build up his fitness following his release from Norwich City.
Injuries have been a major struggle for Byram in recent years but he has seemingly done enough to prove his fitness to warrant a new deal, linking up again with Daniel Farke, who signed him for the Canaries.
Byram to be available for Leeds against Cardiff
The cut-off for all paperwork to be submitted to the EFL in time to be eligible for the weekend was Friday lunchtime.
As per Cross, it appears as though everything was signed in time for Byram to be available for selection despite the announcement having only arrived on Saturday morning.
This is a welcome boost for Leeds with Farke’s squad already hampered by injuries to a number of players, with the Whites boss revealing they trained with just 16 yesterday.
Byram will provide cover and competition on both sides of the pitch at full-back, though it was on the left where he featured heavily in pre-season.
Leo Hjelde and Luke Ayling look set to go into the season as first choice, with Cody Drameh (if fit) and Byram ready to step in when called upon.
