Oliver Langford has been appointed as the referee for Friday’s clash between Rotherham United and Leeds United – and Leeds fans should be worried with our results when Langford is in the middle.
Leeds are back in action after the November break and begin the tough Christmas period with a trip to The New York Stadium, to take on struggling Rotherham. We’ve won three in a row, six of our last seven.
Langford, a well-respected Championship referee, has dished out 50 yellow cards and two red cards in just 12 games this season. Nine of which, have come in England’s second tier. One of the 12 was Leeds.
Indeed, Langford was in the middle when Leeds were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties by Salford City, after a draw. Leeds had a number of penalty shouts during the game, missed by Langford.
Leeds have only suffered four defeats in 18 games this season – Langford reffing one of those. The worrying Leeds form does not stop there. Prior to Salford, he had not reffed us since the 19-20 season.

Indeed, Langford was the man with the whistle during six matches in our promotion season with Marcelo Bielsa in charge. Of those six, Leeds only won twice, losing three times. Another penalty shootout loss.
That was against Stoke City. Leeds also lost matches 2-0 to Nottingham Forest – which coincidentally, was Jean-Kevin Augustin’s debut and the first of just three Leeds outings – and Sheffield Wednesday.
Leeds are favourites going into tonight’s clash. But, we do not have a good record when Langford is the man in the middle and hopefully, that will change tonight. Georgie Rutter, though, looks like he will play.
