Ethan Ampadu has revealed he knew Leeds United was what he wanted after speaking to manager Daniel Farke.
Ampadu was speaking in an interview with LUTV where he explained how both Farke and the size of the club were big factors in his decision to join Leeds.
The 22-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a four-year-deal with the option of a fifth at Elland Road after Leeds reached an agreement on an initial £7 million fee with Chelsea.
Ampadu’s arrival represents Farke’s first signing since being appointed as manager earlier this month as he looks to build a squad tailored to the way he wants to play.
At this stage it remains unclear whether Ampadu will be used either in midfield or defence, though his versatility is seen as a big asset to Leeds.
Ampadu explains how Farke phone call made Leeds decision easy
Ampadu is a player Farke has admired since his days as Norwich City manager and so it is clear the 46-year-old played a key role in bringing him to Leeds.
Speaking in an interview immediately after sealing his move, Ampadu spoke of how a phone call with Farke was all he needed to know this was the right move.
He said: “I think as a club, the history doesn’t have to be sold. Everyone knows how big of a club Leeds United is. Obviously we are now in the position we are, but we all want more. When I spoke with the boss [Daniel Farke], as soon as I got off the phone call I knew what I wanted, he really impressed me.
“He told me what he liked about me and where he thinks I can improve as a player. That all helped me choose Leeds United.”
This is just yet more clear evidence that Leeds have settled on the right man as their new boss, with Farke having a clear vision of how he wants to rebuild this club.
On the pitch, Ampadu will go a long way to implementing his style due to his comfort in possession and hopefully this is the sign of things to come.
