It has emerged this week that Joe Gelhardt is likely to leave Leeds United in the January window with the striker struggling for game time – and Carlton Palmer thinks another Leeds player could join him.
The likes of Rangers, Stoke, Portsmouth and Plymouth are interested in signing 22-year-old Gelhardt. Sam Greenwood could play a role in Gelhardt’s next move, with loan side Preston North End also interested.
Indeed, Gelhardt wants to leave Leeds and it is perhaps, unsurprising. He has been afforded just three appearances this season and only one start, which came as a winger in the Cup defeat to Middlesbrough.
Of course, Gelhardt might not be the only player to leave Elland Road in January with a number of others in doubt regarding their long-term futures. A few players find themselves out of contract in the summer.
Carlton Palmer thinks another Leeds player could leave in January
Junior Firpo, Josuha Guilavogui and Sam Byram find themselves out of contract at the end of the current campaign. Meanwhile, there are doubts over the futures of the likes of Patrick Bamford and Max Wober.
Former Leeds man Carlton Palmer has told Football League World that he thinks left-back Firpo could leave Elland Road in January, with non-English clubs able to approach Firpo on a pre-contract in January.
“The issue that Leeds United have is Junior Firpo’s contract is up at the end of the season. He’s been outstanding for Leeds United again in the Championship, but he struggled in the Premier League.
“So, on that basis, you wouldn’t have thought that Leeds United would be rushing to offer him a contract. He’s believed to be on really good money, so you wouldn’t see Leeds rushing to offer a new contract.
“Especially, when they’re looking to get back to the Premier League, so the likelihood is perhaps that Junior Firpo will leave the club in the January transfer window,” Palmer told Football League World.

Firpo’s future is in doubt and with the player having to travel large distances to represent his country, The Dominican Republic star may prefer a move to a team closer, or a club not playing 46 games a season.
Promotion to the Premier League would surely see Firpo sign on the dotted line at Elland Road, and even if he did struggle initially in the top tier, his form in the Championship shows he has not settled at Leeds.
Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News that Firpo’s future hinges on whether Leeds get promoted. That does mean that at least, Firpo is likely to remain at Elland Road at least until the end of the season.
