Leeds have lined up some exciting names as potential replacements for Daniel Farke.

The man who won the UEFA Europa League last season has been linked as the 49ers consider Ange Postecoglou – while a different boss who can boast 312 Premier League games as a manager has also been mentioned in Brendan Rodgers.

Gary O’Neil is the latest name to be put forward as a possible replacement for Daniel Farke at Leeds – and it was only two years ago that he was a rising star in the world of football management.

The 42-year-old was a superstar of the 2022/23 campaign after saving Bournemouth.

O’Neil took over from Scott Parker in August 2022 after just four games of that season, but many had already resigned Bournemouth to relegation following a harrowing 9-0 defeat at Anfield.

The Londoner was only given the reins on an interim basis at first, but remarkably started that role with a six-game unbeaten run and was later offered an 18-month contract which he signed in November 2022.

O’Neil – who Mikel Arteta admires – eventually managed to steer Bournemouth to 15th, finishing five points above the bottom three.

Weeks before O’Neil secured survival, Neville said on The Gary Neville Podcast (16th April 2023): “If he (O’Neil) keeps Bournemouth up he’s my manager of the season.

“Everybody who I spoke to two weeks ago going into the international break had Bournemouth and Southampton going down. I had Forest, Southampton and Bournemouth as my three (to go down) a few weeks ago.”

It was a superb coaching achievement to keep Bournemouth in the Premier League that term, and it speaks volumes that O’Neil was able to take a side who had just lost 9-0 on to a six-game unbeaten run.

With Leeds currently on a run of four consecutive defeats, he could well be exactly what the 49ers need to turn this season around.
