Former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is in the headlines today after what he achieved with Uruguay last night.
Bielsa helped oversee Uruguay’s first win over Brazil since 2001 at the first attempt in their CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier, a run which spanned an incredible 37 matches.
The 68-year-old will forever be revered around Leeds for his three-and-a-half-year spell at Elland Road, playing some of the best football of the club’s modern era.

During that time, Bielsa handed opportunities to a number of youngsters, with the likes of Joe Gelhardt, Crysencio Summerville, Sam Greenwood and many, many more all getting Premier League debuts under his management.
Another player who falls under that category is Liam McCarron, who Bielsa brought off the bench for his one and only Premier League appearance in a 4-1 defeat to Arsenal at Elland Road in December 2021.
McCarron yet to make Stoke debut despite 2022 move
That game was the only time McCarron ever played for Leeds’ first team, as he made the switch to Stoke City the following summer.
At the time, Stoke were a division below Leeds and so McCarron will have moved there with the hope and expectation of regular minutes given how close he was to the first team picture at Leeds.

However, unfortunately for the 22-year-old, as he is still yet to make a single appearance for the Potters since his move 15 months ago.
In fact, he was loaned out to Stoke’s bitter rivals Port Vale in the same window, where he made two league appearances in October last year, the last of his career.
McCarron returned to Stoke in January where he made four appearances for their U21s, with one on February 20 the last time he stepped onto the pitch, which is a real shame.
