Everton believe they can sign Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto for a ‘bargain’ fee this summer.
That is according to talkSPORT, who report Gnonto is keen to leave Elland Road and return to the Premier League during the current transfer window, with Everton among his potential suitors.
The Toffees are looking to take advantage of Leeds’ relegation by signing Gnonto for a cheaper price, even though he does not have a release clause in his contract.
Leeds are set to lose a host of players this summer as a result of those clauses, however Gnonto is not someone who has one following his £4 million arrival from FC Zurich last summer.
Gnonto surprised almost everyone with how quickly he was able to adapt to the Premier League given his price tag and Everton, as well as Aston Villa, are keen to bring him back to England’s top-flight.
Everton want Gnonto for ‘bargain’ price
The 19-year-old still has four years left on his current deal at Leeds and given he does not have a release clause, the Whites should be in a decent position to keep him.
Based on the price other clubs, like Southampton for Romeo Lavia, are commanding for their top young talents, there is no reason why Leeds should let him leave for this supposed ‘bargain’.
Everton are once again hamstrung financially this summer amid their ongoing ownership uncertainty, and it may well be that a reduced fee is all they can afford.
However, Leeds do not need to change their stance to accommodate Everton if they are indeed keen to keep him, as has been reported.
Gnonto has been identified as one of a select group of players San Francisco 49ers Enterprises want to retain and build a team around this summer, alongside Tyler Adams and Max Wober.
