Phil Hay has reported on The Athletic’s site that Leeds United will pay an upfront fee of £7m to sign versatile Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea, plus add-ons in the future. The Wales star is set for a medical at Elland Road in ‘due course’.
Leeds are yet to make a senior signing this summer. That is despite waving goodbye to a whole handful of first-team players including Robin Koch, Rodrigo, Brenden Aaronson and on Monday, Marc Roca. But that is about to change.

After initial reports on Monday, Hay now says that Leeds have agreed a deal to sign the 43-time Wales star. A fee of £7m has been agreed between the London club and Leeds, with the promise of future add-ons and potential extras.
Hay says a medical has been pencilled in, in ‘due course’. It is likely that it will be this week and maybe even, tonight. Daniel Farke will be hoping, like us Leeds fans, that the addition of Ampadu opens the floodgates of Leeds signings.

So, with Ampadu on board, what do Leeds need to bring in next? Ampadu adds cover alongside Charlie Cresswell on the right side of central defence, meaning that is no longer an issue. He softens the need for new midfielders.
The club probably need another central midfielder even if Tyler Adams remains. A new goalkeeper to replace Illan Meslier, who is likely to go, and Junior Firpo at left-back. Dean Jones says Leeds are trying to find Firpo a new club.
So, a goalkeeper, a left-back, another midfielder. Possibly then, a replacement for Aaronson in the 10 role. Then it depends on exits. If more than one or two wingers go, then a new wide man. Possibly another centre-forward.
