Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Leeds United are now actively trying to find Junior Firpo a new club this summer, with the ‘wheels in motion’ over a potential exit – as the Whites look to continue the exodus of players.
Rasmus Kristensen is the latest to go after it was confirmed by the club over the weekend that the defender had joined Diego Llorente on loan at Roma. Marc Roca is said to be closing in on a return to Spain, with Real Betis.
Of the first team, then, Llorente, Kristensen, Robin Koch, Adam Forshaw, Joel Robles, Weston McKennie, Rodrigo and Brenden Aaronson have left. Roca is close and now, Leeds are keen to sell Firpo before this summer’s deadline.
Fotospor say £12.75m Firpo has an offer on the table from rivals Galatasaray, but it is unlikely Leeds do business with them. Marseille were keen, but have signed Renan Lodi. Real Betis, his old club, have also been linked with him.
So, Firpo’s future hangs in the balance. But it looks as if Leeds are not trying to keep him, and much the opposite. They want him gone and Jones says Leeds are actually trying to help him find a new club – with ‘wheels in motion’.
“Firpo – it’s not worked out. Needs to move on, which will start happening relatively soon. They’re trying to put the wheels in motion. Finding Firpo new clubs to join. The left-back situation does need sorting. It’s been a problem.”

Jones is right, he needs to go. Of the players Leeds have sold – the likes of Llorente, Koch and Rodrigo needed to leave this summer for a mixture of reasons. Contract length, wages, no future. Firpo falls into the latter category.
The chances are that Leeds find themselves a club for Firpo in La Liga over the course of the next few weeks. The Whites are looking at a replacement in the form of Charlie Taylor. So, clearly, they are planning for life without Firpo.
