Phil Hay shares details of loans for Brenden Aaronson and other Leeds stars, good news

Phil Hay reported on The Athletic’s website on Wednesday the loan clubs of Robin Koch, Brenden Aaronson, Marc Roca and Diego Llorente will be paying 100% of the Leeds United quartet’s wages – with Roca set to join the trio.

Llorente has joined Roma on a loan deal without any inclusion of an option. Aaronson, too. Both players will return to Leeds next summer unless a new transfer is organised. For Koch, it is slightly different. Leeds received a loan fee.

Frankfurt will also pay his wages in full – but will get Koch on a free next summer, given his contract at Leeds ends in 2024. Roca is expected to complete a move to Betis in the coming days, and has not joined Leeds in a trip to Oslo.

Things might be slightly different for Rasmus Kristensen. Gianluca Di Marzio says a loan to Roma is back on – but with Roma including a permanent fee in a loan, it is unclear if they will pay all of the Denmark international’s wages.

For Rodrigo, a permanent exit means he will leave Leeds a year before the end of his contract. The Spain star is set to earn bucket loads as he moves to Qatar. Hay says Koch, Aaronson, Llorente and Roca’s wages will be paid in full.

“Aaronson and Koch, their wages are being covered in full. I believe that’s true of Llorente. Koch’s switch to Frankfurt involved a six-figure loan fee. I’d expect that Roca to Betis, would involve full salary recovery,” Hay said.

While there has been criticism from some for getting rid of players on loan, Koch was always going to go on loan because of his contract situation. Llorente has a long contract, so getting him out of the door for a year could help.

It might see us gain a bigger fee in the long term. Aaronson still has a chance of making it at Leeds given his age, while Roca is expected to have a permanent clause in his loan – like Kristensen, amounting to around £10million.

So actually, it is good business by Leeds so far – with Kristensen, Roca and Rodrigo likely to be announced in the next couple of days. The exits of those three surely give Leeds the leg room in terms of wages to make signings.
