Rangers explored a deal for Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton in the summer.
That is according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, who says both the Scottish Premiership side and Queens Park Rangers both looked at a deal during the window but neither were able to develop.
As per the report, Shackleton had been earmarked as a player Leeds were happy to move on following his return from a loan spell at Millwall.
Leeds’ decision to send him out last year looked as though it had spelled the end of his time at Elland Road, but the 23-year-old was determined to prove otherwise.
Shackleton, as always, was one of Leeds’ most impressive performers in pre-season and has since started five of the Whites’ first seven matches in all competitions, across a range of positions.

He showed enough during the summer to prove to new boss Daniel Farke he is good enough to play a part this season, with the 46-year-old having taken a shine to him.
After the Carabao Cup exit at Salford City, in which Shackleton missed a decisive spot-kick in sudden death, Farke lavished him in praise.
He said: “I really love Jamie. He’s sometimes really underrated because he can play all positions. Wherever he plays, he’s always reliable, always solid, always a good team-mate, gives us everything. He’s an unbelievable piece of our squad and I’m really happy to have him.”
As players begin to return from injury across various positions in the squad, Shackleton may start to find game time slightly harder to come by in the coming weeks.
However, Farke is clearly a big fan of him and so he will almost certainly still have a role to play. There is no doubt a player like him will be ready when is called upon.
