Leeds United are really keen to ensure Helder Costa moves on this summer.
That is according to Phil Hay, who was speaking on the latest episode of the Square Ball Podcast, where he claimed ‘nobody is bothered’ about looking to bring him back into the fold.
Hay also added that Costa is also as equally determined to leave Elland Road having spent the last two seasons out on loan.
After spending the 2021/22 campaign at Valencia, Costa then had a year on loan at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, where he won the league title.
Despite that, though, Al-Ittihad opted against exercising the permanent option in his deal and as such, Costa returned to Leeds for pre-season.
Hay says Leeds want Costa to move on this summer
Along with Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnonto, Costa is currently training away from the rest of the first team squad at Elland Road and according to Hay, Leeds are really keen to move him on.
He said: “He and Gnonto are basically both ostracised at this stage. Helder Costa too, except that Helder Costa is totally different. Costa wants to leave, the club want him to leave, nobody is bothered about Costa particularly, he doesn’t really come into this conversation.
“There doesn’t seem to be any massive interest in him. He was in the middle east last season, his contract is starting to run down and he hasn’t been involved for ages. Moving him on makes sense.”
It has been relatively clear throughout the summer that Costa would be moving on having played no part in any of the pre-season friendlies under Daniel Farke.
Costa has also not been handed a squad number for the upcoming season and while Hay does suggest interest has been low in his services, it is hoped he can still depart.
