Phil Hay says Daniel Farke would love to get Tottenham star at Leeds, but it is unlikely

Phil Hay has told The Square Ball podcast that Leeds United manager Daniel Farke would love to reunite with Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp at Elland Road – but his first-team involvement, and price, makes a move unlikely.

Skipp, 22, went on loan to Norwich during the 2020-21 campaign – the year in which Farke won the Championship for a second time with the Canaries. He enjoyed a wonderful year, which saw him establish himself in the Spurs side.

He played 47 times for Farke as the holding midfielder in his famed 4-2-3-1 system, but he has since become a big part of a Tottenham side that are set for a new era under manager Ange Postecoglou. He is likely to play a key role.

Skipp may feel he could do with a move if he wants to gain regular football, but he is well within the reckoning in that Spurs midfield. Yves Bissouma and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg are also options – while Rodrigo Bentancur is still injured.

Hay says that having had Skipp on loan a couple of years ago, Farke would love to have the England U21 man again – at Leeds. But, that a move is nearly impossible due to his Spurs involvement, and that he would cost a big amount.

“If you look at Farke’s teams, particularly at Norwich the players he leaned on, some were so good at delivering for him. Pukki, Buendia, Skipp in midfield, somebody else who I think Farke would love if he could get him,” Hay said.

“He does seem to be quite heavily involved, Skipp. Would cost a lot of money as well. But he leant on these players and they were really good for him,” Hay continued, when discussing Farke’s old players in the latest TSB episode.

Absolutely no chance that Skipp signs for Leeds. He will be unlikely in leaving Spurs, given he remains such a key part of the side. Even if he is not starting, he will be involved – and continue to cover for the injured Bentancur.

Even if Spurs were open to the idea of loaning Skipp out, which you would imagine is almost zero – especially if Hojbjerg leaves – then they would want him to join a Premier League club. But it would be a wonderful signing.
