Leeds United have Freddie Woodman and Angus Gunn on a shortlist of goalkeeping targets this summer.
That is according to Phil Hay, who provided the latest on Leeds’ search for a new shot-stopper on Friday’s episode of The Square Ball Podcast.
Leeds are on the lookout for a new number one before the end of the window with the general consensus being that Illan Meslier will move on, despite an offer having yet to arrive.
Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow and Bayern Munich’s Alexander Nubel have emerged as two key targets in that position, though it appears as if neither will be coming to Elland Road.
Following talks this week, Bournemouth are now firm favourites for Darlow, while Stuttgart are at the front of the queue for Nubel.
Hay names two alternatives to Darlow and Nubel
It is looking more and more likely Leeds will be forced to turn their attention away from their first choice targets, and Hay has named two who could potentially be targeted next.
He said: “They have been, not denying he is someone they have thought of but all the noises in Germany seem to be leading in Nubel going to Stuttgart but we’ll see. They looked at James Trafford but Burnley are paying big money for him so that’s taken him out of the equation.
“They are others they like; Freddie Woodman, Angus Gunn as well. They’re going to have to land on someone.”
Woodman is a player Leeds have long admired and is currently at Preston North End, where he won the club’s player of the season in 2022/23 after joining Bournemouth 12 months ago.
Gunn, meanwhile, has also been linked with a move to Leeds in the past and has worked briefly under Daniel Farke before, with the Whites boss bringing him to Norwich City in the summer of 2021.
