Junior Firpo has arrived, Jack Harrison’s three-year loan spell has been made permanent and Kristoffer Klaesson has replaced Kiko Casilla. Three new additions have come in for the Under-23 side. But Leeds are still on the lookout, and Phil Hay has namedropped four potential options out wide.

Leeds could still do with another signing on the flanks. Helder Costa and Ian Poveda provide cover for Harrison and Raphinha. But Costa was poor against Ajax on Wednesday afternoon and the difference in quality between him and the two starting options is vast. Poveda is still young, and raw.

Leeds have been strongly linked with Club Brugge wide man Noa Lang, and more recently Manchester United’s Wales international Dan James. Other reports claim Ryan Kent is now an option, while a non-reputable Spanish outlet make the bizarre suggestion of Marco Asensio a target.

Asensio, James, Lang and Asensio – what has Leeds reporter Hay said about four stars?

Speaking during a Q&A session, the well-regarded Athletic reporter Phil Hay spoke about the four aforementioned players. He rubbished reports that Spain international Asensio is an option. He labels James and Lang as “realistic” options, and told fans not to rule out Rangers ace Kent.

“Asensio? I’d be very surprised. The links to Dan James and Noa Lang are far more realistic, assuming Leeds take the plunge and buy another wide player,” Hay told The Athletic. “Don’t discount Ryan Kent at Rangers either. That interest goes back a long way.”
