Phil Hay delivers update on Luis Sinisterra’s Leeds future amid major fitness boost

Leeds United are yet to receive any interest or offers for winger Luis Sinisterra this summer.

That is according to Phil Hay of the Athletic, who was speaking on the latest episode of The Square Ball Podcast, where he explained that nothing ‘concrete’ has come in for him yet, though it remains uncertain as to whether he will stay.

Hay went onto add Sinisterra is the type of player Leeds could vulnerable to a late window offer for given their position of weakness in terms of negotations.

Sinisterra only arrived at Leeds 12 months ago in a £21 million deal from Feyenoord and it is clear his ability goes well beyond that of the Championship.

However, the 24-year-old struggled with injuries during his debut campaign at Elland Road, managing just 13 Premier League starts, in which he netted an impressive five goals.

Leeds yet to receive any offers for Sinisterra, says Hay

Sinisterra’s injury problems could be what has so far deterred clubs from making an offer this summer, with the Colombia international one of few players who could fetch a decent fee.

Hay says that while nothing firm has arrived so far, Leeds know he is someone they could potentially be caught out on late in the window.

He said: “With Sinisterrra we’re not aware of any firm approaches at the moment, or any any concrete interest in him. But because Leeds have been relegated and not especially in a position of strengthen to negotiate valuations of players or transfer fees, they will know they will be vulnerable and potentially caught out by late bids and offers that they have to accept either by the level of them or the players want to take themselves to move on.

“It will be very difficult for them to say at this stage who is definitely staying or definitely going.”

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Sinisterra made his return to full training at Leeds for the first time since April on Friday after fully recovering from the ankle injury he sustained against Leicester City.

As such, he is someone who has made the trip to Oslo for the friendly against Manchester United this afternoon, in what is Daniel Farke’s first as manager.

If Leeds are able to keep Sinisterra beyond the summer, that would be a huge boost to their chances of promotion given his ability.
