Pep Guardiola responds as ‘brilliant’ Leeds player offered to Manchester City

Manchester City have been offered the chance to sign Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

That is according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who claims Pep Guardiola has turned down the chance to sign the 23-year-old.

Meslier was one of several goalkeepers offered to Guardiola in the last 24 hours as Bayern Munich pursued a move for City number two Stefan Ortega.

However, Guardiola is not willing to allow Ortega to move on this summer and therefore turned down the chance to sign Meslier, he would’ve replaced him as their number two.

Meslier has started the season as Leeds’ first choice between the sticks, though his future does still remain uncertain in the final weeks of the window.

The Frenchman who was hailed as ‘brilliant’ by Alan Shearer following his performance at Anfield last season had been tipped to depart Elland Road this summer.

He endured a dismal end to last season as Leeds were relegated to the Championship and as per Phil Hay, the Whites were happy to see him depart.

However, with no offers having yet been received, it is now looking more and more possible that he does remain in West Yorkshire.

At this point, it remains unclear as to who offered Guardiola the chance to sign Meslier, but you would expect it can only be either his agent, or Leeds themselves.

With that said, it would indicate there is still some movement going on behind-the-scenes regarding his future.
