Joel Piroe is ready to snub interest from the likes of Leeds United and stay at Swansea City this season, with the striker eyeing a move to Serie A next year.
That is according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (30/7; page 59), which notes that the youngster is prepared to see out the final year of his deal at the Liberty Stadium.
Leeds are one of the teams keeping an eye on Joel Piroe. The 23-year-old has scored 41 goals across his two campaigns in the Championship.
Piroe could snub Leeds interest
Leicester City are also admirers of the Dutchman. However, it would seem that both relegated sides are set for disappointment in this window.
The Sun on Sunday (30/7; page 59) reports that Piroe is content to stay with the Swans for the final year of his deal before heading to an unnamed Serie A side in 12 months.
Obviously, you would imagine that Swansea will have mixed feelings about that prospect. Clearly, their hopes of promotion are greatly boosted by having Piroe in their ranks. But they will not want to lose him on a free in a year.
That is arguably reflected in the fact that the Daily Mail has recently suggested that Swansea want £15 million for the forward in this window. That price is certainly going to put a number of sides off.
The signs in pre-season certainly suggest that Leeds need more fire-power ahead of the new campaign. Patrick Bamford did score against Nottingham Forest. But that chance was put on a plate for the Englishman.
We have seen Rodrigo leave. And unfortunately, Bamford’s fitness has been an issue for a couple of years now.
It would be fantastic to see the club push the boat out for a new striker to push Bamford. And Piroe is an ‘outstanding‘ talent.
But if he is content to stay put this summer, there may not be too much Leeds can really do.
