Leeds United will have to pay £15 million if they are to sign Swansea City striker Joel Piroe this summer.

That is according to Mail+, who report Leeds are the latest club to make an approach for Piroe with Leicester City, Southampton and Everton also keen, but it will take a substantial bid to prise him to Elland Road.

Piroe has just one year remaining on his deal in South Wales and according to Wales Online, has already told Swansea he has no intention of signing an extension.

Since arriving from PSV in 2021, Piroe has netted 41 Championship goals across two seasons, establishing himself as one of the most sought-after strikers in the division.

Piroe is said to have held crunch talks with Swansea at the end of last week, with his valuation among the key topics up for discussion and if this latest report is correct, they have settled on the £15 million mark.

Swansea have clearly used Coventry City’s sale of Viktor Gyokeres as a benchmark for Piroe, with the big Swedish striker having departed the Sky Blues for £20 million already this summer.

Like Piroe, Gyokeres had enjoyed back-to-back seasons of prolific goalscoring returns in the Championship, while also having just 12 months left on his contract.

So with that in mind, that is clearly the going rate for prolific strikers in this division, which is something Leeds desperately need.

Leeds have so far failed to score across both of their pre-season matches and looked fairly toothless in attack against AS Monaco, making a striker a clear priority.

Georginio Rutter has started both games leading the line on his own so far, but it is clear he will need someone alongside him to bring out the best of him.
