Daniel Farke told Wednesday’s press conference that Joe Rodon, Willy Gnonto and Ethan Ampadu will be unable to train this week ahead of Leeds United’s clash against Rotherham United on Friday.
A quick turnaround for those on international duty, with the likes of Rodon, Gnonto and Ampadu all in action on Tuesday night. Today will be returning to Thorp Arch after playing last night, for their nations.
Rodon and Ampadu played 90 minutes as Wales drew 1-1 with Turkey, ending any hope of qualifying for Euro 2024 automatically. They will now have to go through the play-offs. Gnonto enjoyed a good night.
He scored twice as Italy came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Ireland, for the 21’s. Farke says that all three will be unable to train properly before Friday’s clash – only managing individual recovery tomorrow.

“There are some players who can’t train at all. For example, the Welsh players and Willy Gnonto are back today,” Farke bemoaned during Wednesday’s press conference, as per the club’s YouTube channel.
“They will be with us tomorrow, it will just be individual recovery session, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to pick them on Friday. Joe, Ethan, Willy – I can’t send them into a normal session. Simply not possible.”
Daniel Farke says Leeds trio will not train before Rotherham clash
To place our next fixture on a Friday night, given Leeds have a whole host of players on international duty, seems careless on the Championship’s part. It is understandable they want a game on a Friday.
But to give Leeds the Friday night game after an international break is poor from the Championship and the TV companies. Not many other sides have the number of international that Leeds currently boast.
Rodon, Ampadu, Gnonto, Dan James, Glen Kamara, Ilia Gruev, Georginio Rutter, Archie Gray and plenty more have been away from Thorp Arch this week. Surely, it would have made sense to play on Sunday.
