Leeds United summer transfer target Nat Phillips is unsure what his long-term future holds after joining Celtic on loan last month.
Phillips was speaking in an interview with Celts Are Here where he confirmed there has been no conversations on what could happen beyond his initial loan deal.
The 26-year-old made the move to Celtic in the final 48 hours of the window, joining on loan until January to help Brendan Rodgers help with a defensive crisis.
As per Phil Hay, Leeds had been keen on signing Phillips permanently but were unable to get a deal over the line amid Liverpool’s asking price of £10 million.
Phillips is into the last year of his deal at Anfield and so January is likely to prove pivotal to his long-term future as Liverpool look to avoid losing him for nothing next summer.
Leeds target Phillips unsure on long-term future
Phillips would, of course, be free to speak to clubs abroad in January with a view to signing a pre-contract agreement but says no talks have been held regarding potentially extending his stay at Celtic.
He said: “We’ve not had any conversations about that yet. Obviously, there’s an injury situation at the club at the moment and I’ve been brought in to try and help ease that. So that’s where we’re at at the moment we’ve not had any further conversations I think as it stands we’ll talk in January.”
It does feel as though the ship has sailed now regarding Leeds’ interest in Phillips after instead moving to sign Spurs centre-back Joe Rodon on a season-long-loan.
At this stage Daniel Farke is now well stocked in the centre-back department and only a major injury crisis would see Leeds enter the January window looking for another one.
Phillips himself will have to prove his form and fitness in the coming months at Celtic given he has barely played at Liverpool in the last 12 months or so.
