‘No doubt’… Don Goodman tells Leeds to build their team around 22-year-old if they go up

For much of the 2023-24 campaign, Crysencio Summerville has been the man with the answer for Leeds United and the numbers show it – producing a massive 25 goals and assists this season.

The 22-year-old has actually failed to provide a goal involvement in our last four Championship games and by his incredibly high standards – that is a drought. But he has been incredible for Leeds this term.

With 10 league games left to play, Summerville will be absolutely key in Leeds pushing for a place in the top two and securing automatic promotion. His long-term future looks as though it will be with Leeds.

Indeed, he has a deal until 2026 and Leeds are confident of keeping him – but it may be that promotion is required to prevent Summerville’s head from turning. He could be the long-term future of our attack.

Don Goodman has told FLW that Leeds need to build their side around Summerville and ignore any interest in the former Feyenoord star. He is confident Leeds will avoid a Sheffield United, or a Burnley.

“I think he would be better off sticking with Leeds. I’ve got no doubt that if and when Leeds get promoted they’ll build a team around him,” Sky Sports commentator Goodman said this week, to FLW.

“I don’t think for a second that Leeds would do a Sheffield United and not invest, and you’d hope that they did a better job of investing than Burnley have done, with respect to Burnley,” Goodman continued.

Leeds told to build team around Crysencio Summerville next term

Summerville has been superb but he has that kind of persona, that ambitious outlook, that will allow his head to be turned if the right club comes calling. If we don’t go up, you can expect Summerville to go.

If Leeds do secure a place in next season’s Premier League, Summerville will want to stay. It is why he did stay last summer, to give it a year in the Championship with the hope of an instant top-tier return.
