Former Leeds United icon Nigel Martyn has delivered his verdict on Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the striker was criticised for missing several chances in the loss against Spurs.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has made an impressive start to his career at Elland Road, providing a valuable focal point for the Leeds attack.
However, Calvert-Lewin was criticised after the Tottenham game as he missed two clear-cut chances to score, following on from his hat-trick of misses against Bournemouth.
Daniel Farke called for Calvert-Lewin to improve his efficiency in front of goal after the game as Leeds’ long unbeaten record at home was ended.
Now, legendary former Leeds goalkeeper Nigel Martyn has delivered his verdict on the England international after another challenging afternoon in front of goal.

Nigel Martyn praises Leeds United forward
Speaking on LUTV after Leeds slipped to a third defeat of the Premier League season, the former Leeds shot-stopper praised Calvert-Lewin for settling in at the club so quickly.
According to Martyn, he has no doubt that Calvert-Lewin will come good for the Whites if he is given a chance.
Martyn said: “I think when you move to a club, you’re keen to win over a new set of supporters. That’s your first job that you have to do.
“And you do that by showing them how much it matters to you and how much you care about the team that you’re playing for. Dominic shows that absolutely all over the pitch. He runs, he wins his headers, and he works extremely hard in both boxes.
“He comes back and wins headers in our box as well, he creates chances, and he’s managed to get a goal.
“We’d like to see him get one or two more, but he’s putting himself in those positions and just at the moment, the goalkeepers are just saving one or two, but I’m sure it’ll start coming for him again.”

Has Dominic Calvert-Lewin been wasteful for Leeds?
Leeds fans got excited by Calvert-Lewin’s first goal for the club against Wolves, as he put a difficult header into the far corner to show what he is capable of in front of goal.
However, since then, Calvert-Lewin has missed several big chances in a worrying trend for a striker who has been criticised for his finishing in the past.
According to the data from FotMob, Calvert-Lewin has missed five big chances this season, the third-most in the top flight, behind one-time Leeds target Jean-Phillipe Mateta and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

With an xG of 1.34 and one goal for Leeds, Calvert-Lewin is also underperforming against his expected goals tally. Although his all-round play has been strong, Leeds need him to find his scoring touch to fire them to Premier League safety.
