The Independent report that Leeds United met with a number of candidates for the role as manager over the weekend – after it had been reported the club have binned plans to bring in Alfred Schreuder as a replacement for Jesse Marsch.
Schreuder, 50, was in the stands on Sunday. Watching on as Manchester United beat Leeds 2-0, it was expected that the ex-Ajax manager would be given the gig at Leeds. Perhaps, on a deal until the end of the season, as per iNews.
But fan reaction on social media may have driven Leeds to forget a move for the Dutch gaffer. It comes after Schreuder struggled at Ajax in his previous role, sacked in January. Another name to be linked with a move, but not materialising.
It comes after Rayo Vallecano blocked a move for Andoni Iraola. Carlos Corberan signed a West Brom contract. Ange Postecoglou and Arne Slot rejected moves publicly, while Marcelo Gallardo wants to stay out of a job until the summer.
Schreuder is no longer in the running, leaving the betting completely up in the air. The report from the Independent says Leeds actually spoke to a number of managers over the weekend. So, clearly, there is work being done at Leeds.

Who has been linked, that is yet to be ruled out? The Mirror said on Saturday that out-of-work Steven Gerrard could come in at Elland Road. But there are reservations – the Liverpool legend was sacked by Aston Villa earlier this term.
Ralph Hasenhuttl rejected a move to Hoffenheim and he has been linked. Fans on Twitter want Nuno Espirito Santo, but the ex-Wolves boss is under contract at Al-Ittihad. Plenty of work has to be done to have a boss by the weekend.
