A move for Arne Slot at Leeds United is now absolutely impossible, if it wasn’t already. That is because, on Saturday, Leeds target Slot watched his Feyenoord side beat old club AZ to go three points clear at the top of the Eredvisie table.

Slot, 44, has been strongly linked with a move to Leeds. But of course, rejected a move to the club when he said he is building “something beautiful” at Feyenoord. The Dutchman has since taken Feyenoord closer to his first ever title.

The Dutch gaffer has spent his entire playing career, and then his first few years as a manager in The Netherlands. But, Slot has never won the Eredivisie trophy. However, he has never been closer to winning the league title – than now.

On Saturday evening, Feyenoord played host to second-placed AZ. The club Slot managed before taking over at his current side. They went behind initially, but came back to win 2-1 – Marcus Pederson scoring a 92nd-minute winner.

A move for Arne Slot at Leeds is now absolutely impossible

So, if it wasn’t already clear that Leeds would struggle in a move to bring in Slot – it is now. Beren Cross of Leeds Live recently said Leeds would get a deal done if they got any kind of murmur from Feyenoord that they would let him go.

He would be a stunning appointment at just £5.75million. But it is not about being able to afford him – it is about being able to convince Slot to join Leeds. But with Feyenoord top of the table and a title incoming, there is no chance.

Where could Leeds turn now? Well, as things stand, Michael Skubala remains in charge for this weekend’s game – when we host Southampton. But Leeds need a manager and out-of-work options could come to the fore. Rafa Benitez?
