Leeds United are reportedly considering a move to bring in Nuno Espirito Santo as manager at Elland Road after a series of rejections since sacking Jesse Marsch – and Barry Douglas is a big fan of the Portuguese gaffer’s style of play.
The 49-year-old is currently in Saudi Arabia after his short stint at Tottenham ended in failure. He has guided Al-Ittihad to the Saudi Arabian Super Cup, winning 13 of 19 games in charge. In that time, his side have scored a huge 34 goals.
Yes, Nuno struggled at Spurs, despite winning eight of his 17 games. But his CV is impressive, winning 95 of 199 games in charge of Wolves. He got them promoted, and took a side – including Barry Douglas – to Championship promotion.
Previous spells at Valencia and Porto also saw him produce win rates north of 50%. 90Min claim that Leeds would have to pay £8m to bring Nuno to Leeds. Joining Wolves in 2017 under Nuno, Douglas said he is a fan of his style of play.
“One of the big factors in me coming back (to the UK to join Wolves) was we were going to play football,” Douglas told the Express & Star, back in 2017. “I’m maybe not your typical British full back, I’m more about playing with the ball.”

Leeds cannot stop conceding goals. What Leeds need, is that Leeds need to shore up the defence and give themselves a chance to win matches – rather than always playing catch-up. Bringing in a boss like Nuno would certainly do that.
Pragmatic, but attractive in terms of play, too. He is willing to keep the ball and dominate possession, but also get behind the ball and not commit. Play on the counter and defend when needed. Nuno’s style fits what Leeds need.
