Next Leeds manager: What Leeds will have to pay to hire Nuno Espirito Santo

Football site 90Min claim Leeds United will have to pay £8m to bring in Nuno Espirito Santo from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad where he is currently working with Helder Costa – amid reports he and Steven Gerrard are the front runners.

The Leeds manager hunt is now eight days old after the club sacked Jesse Marsch last Monday. Since, five bosses have rejected a move to Elland Road – in Andoni Iraola, Carlos Corberan, Arne Slot, Ange Postecoglou and Marcelo Gallardo.

Then, Alfred Schreuder was linked. The Dutchman was in the stands and was expected to take over. But reaction from fans on social media saw a move fail. De Telegraaf say Victor Orta wanted him, but Andrea Radrizzani blocked a move.

The Mail now say that Santo and Gerrard are the two new contenders for Leeds. Gerrard is out of work, while Nuno is contracted until the summer of 2024. Now, 90Min claim that he has an £8m release clause in his Al-Ittihad contract.

Leeds will have to pay £8m to bring in Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno has a wonderful record in the Premier League. He lasted 10 league games at Spurs. But he joined a Spurs side that had Harry Kane’s head turned. A Spurs side without Kane struggles. Kane himself said he is a “great manager”.

But at Wolves, he took a Championship side – albeit with investment – to the Europa League knockout rounds. Yes, he had money to spend but he still had to coach these players. He did a stunning job at Molineux. Is it worth the £8m?

It depends how Leeds view Nuno. Do they see him as a fire fighter with the potential of extending his contract beyond the summer if we stay up? Or even, if we go down? Does Nuno want to go? These questions will be answered soon.
