BBC Radio Leeds reporter Adam Pope has responded to Leeds United fans on Twitter by claiming that the name of Raul is “swirling around” on Tuesday, as the club look to make an appoint our next manager in the coming days.
Raul, 45, is of course, a Real Madrid legend. The player that currently holds the record for most Real Madrid games, a whopping 741. He remains at the Santiago Bernabeu, as manager of the club’s second string, the Castilla side.
He has been in the role for four years, winning 57 of his 131 games. But his contract is up at the end of the month and his future is in doubt. It might be that he has to leave Real and prove his worth, before returning to get the job.
Spanish newspaper AS reported in February that Raul had turned Leeds down, when offered the chance to replace Jesse Marsch as Leeds boss. But with it now being summer and his deal about to end, he could jump at the chance.
Pope responded to Leeds fans on Twitter. With Patrick Vieira and Daniel Farke the front runners, and Scott Parker being interviews – Pope also said that Raul’s name is ‘swirling around’. He said, in a second Tweet, Raul is set to go.

Raul is clearly an iconic manager. He is also a man of enormous stature, given his records at Real Madrid. A Ballon d’Or runner-up in 2001. As a manager he has also impressed, winning the UEFA Youth League back in 2019.
So, could Leeds move? Unlikely. Raul has already rejected Leeds. The likelihood is that he goes to another Spanish side, proves his worth. Then, Real Madrid may consider him. Leeds in the top tier, maybe. In the Championship? No.
