Leeds United have made a bid to sign Germany international Nadiem Amiri from Bayer Leverkusen this summer – and he is a player that attracted £15m interest from both Arsenal and Tottenham in 2018.

Amiri, now 26, has fallen down the pecking order somewhat at Leverkusen. After four years with the Bundesliga giants, he needs a move. A fresh new moment in his career where he can recreate his best.

Fabrizio Romano broke the news that Leeds had made a bid for Amiri – before Kicker followed that news up, with an update. They say a deal is well advanced, with Leverkusen requesting a bargain £5.1m fee.

Clearly a massive talent, Amiri has won Germany caps in the past. A player with more than 200 games in the Bundesliga. But it has fallen by the wayside somewhat and his contract is due to end next summer.

It gives Leeds a chance – and sees Amiri possibly move to England, having had the opportunity to do so in the past. Back in 2018, Bild report that Spurs and Arsenal wanted him in the Capital – in a £15m deal.

So, Leeds are getting themselves a player for a possible bargain fee that clearly has Premier League quality. But, is he past it? Was it just a flash in the pan – and now, he has plateaued? It is a bit of a risk.

But a well-educated one. Daniel Farke will know that at Leverkusen, he has not been able to get a run of games that allows him to develop momentum. He is still very young at 26, there is time to turn it around.

At just £5.1m, he is certainly worth the risk. He could be Farke’s Emi Buendia in that 10 role – a player that was really the genius behind Teemu Pukki in getting Norwich into the Premier League under Farke.
