New Leeds target said his dream is to move to England, using club as a springboard

Leeds United could reportedly move to sign Aberdeen star Luis Duk but face competition from other Championship clubs – and Duk has previously said he is only at Aberdeen as a springboard to realise his dream; play in England.

Duk, 23, has impressed since his move to Aberdeen. Failing to play for Benfica’s senior side, he impressed in their second string and U21 side – earning a move to Pittodrie. Last season, he starred in what was his first campaign.

Despite only making his senior debut in an Aberdeen shirt at the start of the season, he went on to have a hand in 24 goals in 43 games. Scoring 18, he created six. That form has attracted the likes of Leeds and other English sides.

Sunday Mirror reporter Darren Witcoop claimed on Twitter that Leeds and Southampton scouts watched the striker in action against Celtic. Aberdeen lost 3-1, but Duk got an assist. He is likely to have impressed onlooking scouts.

Speaking to Mais Futebol last term, he said that he did not even know who Aberdeen before joining – and had to be convinced to move to the Scottish side in order to use them as a springboard to earn a move to English football.

“I honestly didn’t know about Aberdeen beforehand. My agent presented them to me as an option, but I wasn’t very tempted to join them. It was my father who encouraged me to come over to Scotland,” Duk said back in April.

“I knew the Scottish league has often been a springboard for players to reach the English Championship, and even the Premier League. That is one of the reasons I came here. I came here with the aim of getting to England.”

Leeds could move for Duk: Using Aberdeen as springboard for England

Duk would be a wonderful signing. A player that has a bit of everything in the final third and given he does not play for either Celtic or Rangers, he is likely to cost a small-ish figure. Clearly, he would be open to joining Leeds United.

He has power, pace, goals and creativity – laying on six assists last season. Leeds need a player that they can at least, cross the ball too. Duk is that – but he can also do other bits. Judging on the fee, he would be a solid signing.
