Leeds United are reportedly looking at a surprise move to sign PSG talent Edouard Michut after he spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Sunderland – and here is what Michut said in June, about a permanent Sunderland switch.
Michut, 20, played 28 times for Sunderland in both league and cup last season as Tony Mowbray’s side reached the Championship play-off semi-finals – losing to Luton. A team that also comprised of Jack Clarke and Joe Gelhardt.
GFFN report that Sunderland had the option to sign Michut – a player with France U19 caps – for a permanent fee of just £2.2m. But, that did not happen and he has returned to the Ligue 1 champions. Another move is now expected.
Fabrizio Romano reported in an exclusive on Twitter last night that Leeds are one of a number of clubs looking to sign Michut. Speaking back in June, he explained it was his decision not to join Sunderland on a permanent basis.
“The club offered me to stay,” Michut told L’Equipe in June. “It is my decision not to stay at Sunderland. We did not agree on certain contractual points. There were also some questions about the game plan which did not suit me.
“I’m more of a player who touches between 80 and 100 balls per game, and in this pattern, I’m at 50-60 maximum. I thank the president for understanding my choice not to stay,” Michut continued, speaking candidly about a move.

Clearly, he is a player that knows what he wants. At 20, perhaps there is question to be had about his attitude – blaming Tony Mowbray’s style of play on perhaps, his failure not to really get going at the Stadium of Light.
But if what he says is right, and he prefers to dominate possession in midfield, then perhaps a move to Elland Road – where Leeds will be among the best clubs in the league, will suit Michut. Hard to see him starting for Leeds.
