Max Wober has reportedly told Leeds United he wants to remain at Elland Road after joining the club from Salzburg in January – and while it is good news, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk now have to make a decision on their future.
Wober, 25, was probably one of our best players in the second half of the season – despite picking up a number of injuries. He remains at Leeds, having moved his family to England for the first time in his career. Decision made.
He has decided to remain in England, largely due to only just joining the club. While he did perform well, a move in the coming weeks may have only occurred should he go abroad again. So, it looks as if Wober is going to remain.
That is according to Leeds Live. But with Wober easily our best-choice left-sided centre-back, that leaves captain Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk slightly in the lurch. They will know with Wober staying, they will struggle to start.
Cooper and Struijk have decisions to make as Wober to stay at Leeds
Leeds are likely to bring in a left-back, and that means Struijk’s other avenue into the side is also likely to have an obstacle in the way. Phil Hay reports that Leeds are considering a move to bring Charlie Taylor back to Elland Road.
Ryan Manning has also been linked, with the Ireland star a free agent after leaving Swansea in June. Struijk finds himself as third choice then, in his preferred position, even after relegation. Cooper will want to start after the drop.
The chances are that the Scotland star remains, given he is the club captain and has already made it clear he will be staying put. So, a decision on his future looks like it is already set in stone. But Wober staying may change his mind.
For Struijk, you would argue that he may need to go. It would be great if Leeds can keep him, he offers versatility in a number of positions. But he is down the pecking order in his favoured positions. Cooper and Struijk could leave.
