The January transfer window rumour mill is already underway with Leeds United potentially looking at a move to sign Ben Brereton Diaz in January – and it could signal the end for Patrick Bamford.
Brereton Diaz left England in the summer to join Villarreal but after 16 appearances, the Chile star is yet to open his account for the struggling La Liga giants. It comes after 38 goals in two years at Blackburn.
Of course, the 24-year-old has proven he is excellent on these shores but is yet to do it in Spain. A Team Talk report said recently that Villarreal could green light a January loan exit. He could return to England.
Burnley, Palace, Southampton, West Brom and Leicester are all said to be interested. But, Ben Jacobs has told Give Me Sport that Leeds making a move for the Chile attacker is “one to watch” in January.
Leeds do not currently need a striker. Joel Piroe and Georgie Rutter are doing it in the forward line at the moment. Bamford, Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph are currently providing back-up at Elland Road.

But, Gelhardt and Joseph are a whole lot younger than Bamford. The two youngsters will surely be in Daniel Farke’s long-term plans and could be given the chance to go on loan. Bamford’s future is a doubt.
The one-time England man is yet to start and for a player of his calibre and wages at Leeds, Bamford may feel he has to go – even before a possible signing in attack. Brereton Diaz would overtake Bamford.
So, surely, if Brereton Diaz joins and Leeds make a surprise move as Jacobs suggests we could – then such a move would signal the end of the road for Bamford at Leeds, almost six years after joining Leeds.
