Former Leeds United target Ben Brereton Diaz is set to be allowed to leave Villarreal on loan in January.

That is according to TeamTalk, who report that Brereton Diaz has been given the green light to seal a temporary switch despite having only joined the Spanish side in July.

Villarreal beat a whole host of clubs to the 24-year-old’s signature in the summer, as he moved on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Blackburn Rovers.

However, Brereton Diaz has endured a far from ideal start to life in Spain, as he is yet to find the back of the net having started just two La Liga matches so far.

Villarreal sit 13th in the table and already well adrift of the European places having picked up just 12 points from their 12 matches this season.

As per the report, a number of Premier League and Championship clubs are now on red alert regarding his availability, despite his difficult past few months.

Burnley and Crystal Palace are among the sides from England’s top-flight said to be keen, while Southampton, Leicester City and West Brom of the Championship are too.

Victor Orta spent several years chasing Brereton Diaz during his time as sporting director at Leeds, with the most concrete interest coming in January earlier this year.

As per the Daily Mail, Leeds sent scouts to watch him in action for Chile against Morocco, though opted against making a move in the winter window.

That is because Brereton Diaz was keen to run his deal down at Blackburn, allowing him the chance to sign a pre-contract agreement at a European club. Villarreal was his choice, but it just hasn’t worked as of yet.
