The rivalry between Leeds United and Millwall has been a ferocious one over the years and the two sides do battle once again on Wednesday night, with both sides in good form.

Two passionate fanbases that have made their dislike of each other known over the last 20 years. It was already a vigorous relationship before the two sides met in the League One play-offs in 2008-09.

Flags of a Turkish nature, racist abuse against El Hadji-Diouf and many skirmishes between Leeds and Millwall fans over the years has heightened an unlikely rivalry given the near-200 miles separating them.

Even Millwall manager Neil Harris has enjoyed the rivalry between the two sides, firstly as a player. In eight meetings against Leeds, Harris enjoyed five victories and scored four goals against the Whites.

Millwall boss Neil Harrison shares what he’s told his players

Leeds go into the game in excellent form, unbeaten since defeat to Burnley. Eight games, five wins and an impressive five clean sheets, the last of which came in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth.

Millwall though, are in good form too. Unbeaten in five, after an impressive 1-0 win over Burnley on the weekend which has solidified Leeds’ position in second, as Jake Cooper scored the only goal of the game.

Quoted by South London Press reporter Rich Cawley, Harris shared what he has told his Millwall players ahead of the clash against Leeds in order to rile his squad up before the visit of Daniel Farke’s Leeds side.

“We know the atmosphere is going to be electric. We told the players: ‘This (Burnley) is your warm up for Wednesday. Enjoy it, don’t live off it. Back in the training ground tomorrow preparing for Wednesday’.”

Leeds United’s record against Millwall over the last 10 games

Leeds have enjoyed some recent success against Harris’ men in recent years. Four wins from the last five match-ups between the two sides, but it is fair to say this is a better Millwall that Leeds will now take on.

Perhaps reassuringly for Leeds fans, is Farke’s record against Millwall. The German has only lost one of eight against the London outfit, guiding Leeds to two wins and two clean sheets against them last term.

Indeed, Farke has on five of his eight games against Millwall in the past. So, it looks as if Leeds will be the favourites to win Wednesday’s clash – but Millwall are a tough outfit at the moment and in good form.
