Nation’s media praise ‘fearless’ Leeds United star after he suffers nasty head injury for loan club

Leeds United were victorious again on Saturday to push The Whites into first place in the Championship, but one player still on the Elland Road books currently sits second in his league.

Daniel Farke’s men are looking good for a return to the Premier League at the end of the season after 11 wins from 19 Championship games and a total of 11 clean sheets, cruising past Derby County to win 2-0.

Two players that used Victor Orta’s loan relegation clause in the summer of 2023 combined to nab the second, with Brenden Aaronson’s deflected cross being turned into the back of the net by Max Wober.

Both Leeds players went on loan to German clubs last season. Of the eight that went out on loan last season, four remain on the books with two on loan again – and one of those two is currently in Germany.

Rasmus Kristensen praised by German media despite head injury

Kristensen is back from injury after starring for Frankfurt alongside Robin Koch this season. He was in super form before missing three games due to a hamstring issue but he’s back on the pitch for them.

Frankfurt drew 2-2 with Augsburg on Saturday and Kristensen lasted the 90 despite a clash of heads with Phillip Tietz on 28 minutes, which left Kristensen forced to play the remainder of the game strapped up.

But he coped well and Frankfurter Rundschau praised the Denmark star as fearless, as he lasted the entire game despite the knock to his head: “Fearless defender, with an important save from Wolf’s cross pass.

“He celebrated for it, and rightly so. Then knocked out, fell to the ground with a bleeding laceration after a header duel with [Phillip Tietz[. Strapping around it and on. That’s how we know him,” FR reported.

Bogle arrived in the summer as Kristensen left, with the £5m signing from Sheffield United deemed the long-term replacement for Luke Ayling and taking his no.2 shirt with Ayling leaving for Middlesbrough.

But if Leeds do get promoted, there will be doubts regarding Bogle’s defending. In the Championship, Bogle’s attacking talent is on full show and his ability to defend does not come under the microscope.

In the Premier League, it is a different story. Frankfurt are set to sign Kristensen permanently at some point during his loan if the two clubs can agree a fee, but this is a player sitting second in the Bundesliga.

While the numbers suggest Kristensen is below Bogle’s standard this season, it is almost more impressive that Kristensen is close given his form is coming in Germany’s top tier as Frankfurt mount a title charge.

Perhaps, Leeds may change their stance on Kristensen if the club do go up and may consider doing what they have done with Wober and Aaronson, and bringing him back into the fold at Elland Road.
