Leeds star Brenden Aaronson started for USMNT in the early hours of Monday as the United States secured a 2-0 win over Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League final – and US media praised him in their player ratings piece.
Aaronson, 22, clocked up his 32nd cap for USA at the Allegiant Stadium – in the Nations League final. USA secured a brilliant win under interim manager BJ Callaghan’s second game, after he oversaw a nasty 3-0 win over Mexico.
Aaronson, who has been linked with an exit at Elland Road this summer, started after coming on as a sub in the win over Mexico. He lasted 68 minutes before being replaced, as Crystal Palace ace Chris Richards opened the scoring.
Arsenal’s in-form striker Folarin Balogun opened his account for USA in his second cap, after switching allegiance to the US. Aaronson did well in midfield, despite not having much of an impact in the final third. MLS gave their verdict.
“Canada’s tight marking didn’t allow Aaronson to find much of the game in attack. What he lacked going forward he made up for in work rate, grit, tirelessly pressing, throwing his body around against bigger players, in 50-50 duels.”

If Aaronson is going to tempt clubs to make a move for him this summer, then impressing on the international scene is one way to do it. He certainly did that on Monday morning – but, it was also a performance that summed him up.
Indeed, a player that works as though he has two sets of lungs. Never stops. But, is still lightweight – and too much so for the Premier League, and in England as a whole. 90Min say he has a £25m exit clause in his Leeds contract.
