Wales manager Rob Page has been quoted by BBC Sport as saying that Premier League clubs should be looking to sign Leeds United winger Dan James this summer – telling media that he believes the wide man is a top-tier player.

James, 25, was of course on loan at Fulham last season after the club decided to bring in Willy Gnonto on deadline day. After only managing 23 games for Fulham and scoring just three goals, James is unlikely to generate interest.

That, and Leeds spent £25m to bring him to Elland Road in 2021 from Manchester United. James is only 40 games in to his Leeds spell, clocking up nine goal involvements. His £52k-a-week contract still has three years left to run.

As things stand, he will be playing for Leeds in the Championship. But, Wales boss Page has attempted to tout his name around by saying that if he was a Premier League manager – he would be looking to bring James to his club.

“I do think DJ (James) is a Premier League player. If I’m a Premier League manager and I find out he’s available, personally I’d take him. I’m bound to say that because I’m his Welsh manager, but for me he always poses a threat.

“He still has things to work on, but with the pace he’s got it is a brave team that plays a high line against him. He could easily play in the Premier League,” Page was quoted as saying by BBC Sport over the course of the weekend.

James would be a wonderful asset in the Championship and with Leeds likely to lose a number of wingers this summer, Leeds should look to keep him. Luis Sinisterra, Gnonto, Jack Harrison and Cree Summerville have interest.

His form and lack of game time for Fulham will reduce those looking at him. But, given his wages, James might be one Leeds look to loan out and James himself may prefer to remain in the Premier League, if given the opportunity.
