Daniel Farke thinks the additions of Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara will be crucial for Leeds United this season.
Farke was speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s trip to Millwall where he was asked about how pleased he is now is with his midfield depth.
Leeds brought in both Gruev and Kamara in the final 48 hours of the window after spending the entirety of the summer chasing new midfield reinforcements.
Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray have both started all seven of Leeds’ matches in all competitions, but particularly in the case of the latter, they are not going to be able to play every game.
Gray is still only 17-years-old and was forced to withdraw from the England U19s squad for the international break this month after picking up a minor injury.
Farke thinks Gruev and Kamara will be vital
While both Ampadu and Gray have so far been exceptional, Farke believes the additions of Gruev and Kamara will be pivotal in order to ease the workload.
He said: “It was much needed to add depth and quality. We can’t just rely on Ampadu and Gray. They’ve been fantastic but it’s important to have Gruev and Kamara with us. Competition and that we’re capable to react.”
While Gruev and Kamara will first and foremost provide the squad with depth, at the same time their ability means they are also more than capable of being regular starters.
Gruev has arrived from the Bundesliga where he was playing regularly at Werder Bremen, while only two years ago Kamara was a key part of the Rangers side that reached the Europa League final.
If both Ampadu and Gray were injured, you have no qualms about a midfield partnership of Gruev and Kamara, which is the key to having a strong squad.
