Daniel Farke is unsure if Sam Byram will be fit enough to start for Leeds United against Queens Park Rangers tomorrow.
Farke was speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday night’s game at Elland Road, where he was quizzed on the likelihood of Byram starting.
During the week in which Leeds had three games in six days last month, Farke confirmed Byram was not yet at the level to be able play 90 minutes in all of them.
As such, Byram was handed starts in both of the weekend matches with Millwall and Watford, but was rested in the draw at Hull City, where his ‘top class’ performances were missed.
Leeds have a longer turnaround between weekend and midweek this time around, but it still remains unclear if Byram will be chosen from the start.
Farke unsure if Byram will start for Leeds vs QPR
Speaking in this afternoon’s press conference, says he is yet to make a decision on his availability for tomorrow, but is more concerned on the turnaround between QPR and Bristol City.
He said: “We will see. This turnaround is easier than the last. Three days and 24 hours more than last time. Early kick-off on Saturday. Much easier than last turnaround. More concerned about the next turnaround Wednesday then Saturday.”
At this point it still feels highly unlikely that Byram is ready to play three matches in a week and so Farke has a big decision to make.
If Byram starts against QPR tomorrow, it is almost certain he will be on the bench at the weekend, meaning Farke must decide which game he will be needed most in.
Given his injury history, it may be wise to hand him that extra couple of days of recovery time, and start him against Bristol City instead.
