Michael Skubala says Leeds United have a ‘really exciting talent’ in Sean McGurk currently shining for the U21s.
Skubala was speaking to Leeds Live after the young Whites’ 2-2 draw with Liverpool at the weekend, in which he both scored and assisted.
The game on Sunday took McGurk’s tally for the season up to four goals and two assists in seven Premier League 2 appearances, comfortably his best run of form since joining from Wigan Athletic in 2021.
McGurk is a creative number 10 who is also capable of playing out wide, but is out of contract at the end of the season, and so Leeds will have a big decision to make as to whether to keep him.
The 20-year-old is still yet to make his senior debut at Elland Road, and it this stage, feels a considerable way down the pecking order, despite his excellent recent run of form.

Speaking on his start to the season, Leeds U21s coach Skubala says McGurk is an ‘exciting talent’ who is ‘fighting’ and ‘working’ really hard to make a name for himself at the club
He said: “He’s fighting to be here and he’s fighting to keep progressing as young professional, my job is to support him. More than that is up to the club and Daniel and where they see him in the future but he’s a great young man, he’s working hard and he’ll be a credit to us moving forward or wherever he ends up as a young professional but he’s a really exciting talent.”
At the age of 20 it is clear to see now that U21s football is clearly a bit too easy for him and therefore in January, Leeds have to be sanctioning a loan move for him somewhere in the EFL.
Most players at his age nowadays have made their senior debut and so in terms of getting to grips with first team football, McGurk is a little behind some of his peers.
With that in mind, it is vital Leeds send him out somewhere for regular games once the window opens, as it could be make or break for him getting a new deal at Elland Road.
