Ange Postecoglou has made a good start to life at Tottenham Hotspur and speaking to Optus Sport after the 2-0 win over Manchester United, Michael Bridges says he tried to get him in at Leeds United.
Postecoglou’s side, without Harry Kane, secured a decent 2-2 draw away at Brighton in Postecoglou’s first game – before beating Man United 2-0 at home. Spurs look solid even without the England captain.
It comes after he starred at Celtic, winning two league titles in two seasons. Postecoglou has also won the Japanese J-League, and impressed in his home country at club level, and as National Team boss.
Following the sacking of Jesse Marsch in February, TMW even said Postecoglou was a possible option. But he remained at Celtic to go and win the league. Bridges says he tried to convince Leeds to get him.
“I was trying to get Ange to Sunderland or Leeds. It was so interesting to hear how many people say that they’d never heard of the guy because he’d been in Asia or they didn’t think he’d have the pedigree.”

Clearly, Postecoglou would have been worth the risk. A manager that has got his Spurs side playing on the front foot, inverted full-backs, scoring goals, creating chances and very difficult to defend against.
It was the same story at Celtic. Would it have worked at a club like Leeds in the Premier League? Maybe, but it is much better at a club that have the finances to be able to sign players to play on the front foot.
Leeds will need to solidify their position in the Premier League – if we get promoted this season, which in itself is a huge ask. Then, we can consider a manager like Postecoglou. But straight away? It is risky.
