Mateusz Klich has joked the Championship needs VAR after the refereeing controversy in Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Friday.
Klich provided the response to a Leeds fan account on Twitter, who were asking supporters to give a five-word summary on the night’s events at Elland Road.
Leeds were again short on numbers heading into the game with the Baggies, with Daniel Farke only able to name seven substitutes, two of which were goalkeepers.
That said, Leeds were the better team for the majority of the 90 minutes and created the better of the two chances out of the two sides.
The refereeing controversy started in West Brom’s goal, with Brandom Thomas-Asante clearly handling the ball into the net past Illan Meslier.

Just a few minutes after the away side’s opener, Leeds were then denied what appeared to be a stonewall penalty as Cedric Kipre went clattering into Joe Gelhardt inside the area.
Klich was clearly left unimpressed by the decisions made by referee Matt Donohue and joked that VAR is needed in the Championship based on that performance.
He wrote on Twitter: “Bring the VAR back now!”
It is a difficult one. VAR was the cause of plenty of frustration during Leeds’ time in the Premier League but it cannot be argued that it wouldn’t have made a difference last night.
Thomas-Asante’s goal would’ve almost certainly been chalked off and while the threshold for penalties is extremely inconsistent, there is no doubt Leeds had a huge shout for the challenge on Gelhardt.
