Luke Ayling is set to seal his departure from Leeds United in the next 24 hours and Mateusz Klich has now shared his reaction.
Ayling has not made a league appearance for Leeds since the beginning of November and with his contract set to expire in the summer, is now on the verge of joining Middlesbrough on loan for the rest of the season.
The 32-year-old is undergoing a medical at Boro today and the transfer will bring a legendary seven-and-a-half-year spell at Elland Road to an end.
Klich and Ayling are two of the most iconic members of the Leeds squad that won promotion to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa in the 2019/20 season.
Klich himself had an emotional exit from Leeds just over a year ago at full-time of a 2-2 draw with West Ham United, and with Ayling another member of that promotion side to move on, the Polish man has shared his reaction on Twitter, with an emoji that best sums up how fans will be feeling.
Klich shares reaction to Ayling’s Leeds exit
Klich was responding to a tweet made by LUFC Data earlier this morning, who provided a superb summary of Ayling’s time at the club following a £200,000 move from Bristol City in 2016.
In total for Leeds, Ayling made 268 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 21 assists. 248 of those matches came from the start, winning 121. 81 came as captain.
Ayling will forever be remembered for that incredible volley against Huddersfield Town, post-match interview at Nottingham Forest, and a whole lot more.
But, ultimately, it cannot be argued against that it is the right time to say goodbye given his lack of game time this season, and with Leeds not going to offer him a new deal.
Hopefully Leeds can now switch their attention towards signing a replacement, with Connor Roberts of Burnley the most heavily linked.
