Leeds United announced the signing of Alex Cairns just a day after selling Kristoffer Klaesson to Polish side Rakow, and now the club have made another goalkeeper decision.

Leeds have been busy getting rid of a number of players this summer. Whether that be permanent sales in Archie Gray, Charlie Cresswell, Diego Llorente, Marc Roca and Klaesson as well as those leaving on loan.

Sam Greenwood, Darko Gyabi, Jack Harrison and Sonny Perkins have headed out temporarily. Ian Poveda, Liam Cooper and Cody Drameh are technically free agents, while others have joined new clubs on a free.

Lew Bate has gone to Stockport County, while Jamie Shackleton is a promotion rival at Sheffield United. Only two signings have been made, but only one is a proper addition to Daniel Farke’s team this summer.

Leeds make new goalkeeper decision after Cairns signing

Joe Rodon has joined permanently, but it doesn’t add anything to the side Leeds had at their disposal last term. Brenden Aaronson is like a signing, but the only real addition is the signing of experienced Cairns.

The 31-year-old rejoins Leeds after leaving in 2015, playing once in 2011 as a sub in a 5-0 drubbing from Blackpool at Elland Road. He replaces Klaesson but he is not the only goalkeeper to pen a Leeds contract.

Leeds have also announced a new deal for impressive youngster Harry Christy, who was a regular part of the U21 side last term. He took to Instagram after agreeing terms to remain at Leeds for another season.

Christy is one of a number of young players to sign new terms as Leeds continue to act and get their ducks in a row before making any real forays into the transfer market themselves in the coming weeks.

The youngster was on the bench against Plymouth in The FA Cup, and is now fourth in line when it comes to the Leeds goalkeepers behind Illan Meslier, Karl Darlow and Cairns. Dani van den Heuvel has left Leeds.

Leeds talent Joseph was among those to react to Christy’s post on Instagram, as was former Elland Road man Bate. Christy will now be expected to solidify his place in the U21 side over the next 12 months.
