Whisper it quietly, but Leeds United have now gone three games unbeaten in the Premier League after drawing against Brentford on Sunday – despite Brentford’s stunning home record.
Having saved his job with a win against Chelsea and a draw against Liverpool, Leeds fans were worried that the Whites would not take advantage of the momentum earned and lose at Brentford on Sunday.
Is Daniel Farke right to call out the referee after Leeds’ draw against Brentford? 😤
Watch the highlights and judge for yourself
Especially, with Brentford having won five of their seven home games before the match, while Leeds had lost six of seven away games. Jordan Henderson gave Brentford the lead in the second half of the game.
But Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it 1-1 with a superb header from a Willy Gnonto cross. However, it could have been more, and certainly, Leeds had chances to score more than once. The referee did, as well.

Mark Clattenburg stunned Leeds weren’t awarded penalty
In the first half, referee John Brooks – officiating his first Leeds game since the 2023-24 Championship playoff final – gave Brentford a penalty for Gabi Gudmundsson’s tug. Luckily for Leeds, it was offside.
So for Leeds not to win a penalty from Brooks on Nathan Collins’ pull on Calvert-Lewin is mind-boggling. Speaking to LeedsUnited.News, Clattenburg said he cannot understand why the penalty wasn’t given.
“It should have resulted in a penalty. I was surprised that the ref did not award the penalty after giving a more debatable penalty to Brentford earlier in the match which was correctly overturned by VAR.”

What Jermaine Beckford and Dom Matteo said to penalty claim
Also discussing the incident, which would have seen Leeds possibly have taken the lead with the scoreline reading 0-0, was Dom Matteo and Jermaine Beckford during LUTV’s coverage of Leeds’ 1-1 draw.
Matteo: “I just think to myself, why not? React. He’s gone down, what’s the worst that could happen? If it gets you a penalty, a result – then be a bit noisy. Get in the ref’s face, the big teams do it all the time.”
Beckford: “What’s the point in having VAR if they are not going to pick up things like that, unless a player is screaming or shouting? It’s stupid, it’s so backwards. If it was me, I’m screaming at the top of my voice.”
Leeds must dust themselves down and attempt to stretch their unbeaten run to four on the weekend. A tough clash against Crystal Palace at Elland Road awaits Farke’s men, who have to keep this momentum.
