Marc Roca has told Marca’s Fish & Twitch channel that Leeds United have an “incredible teacher” in veteran goalkeeper Joel Robles – even if, the Spanish goalkeeper is yet to make his debut for Leeds since joining the club.

Robles, 32, was one of nine summer signings at Elland Road. The eighth to come through the door in the summer, after his Real Betis contract expired. Leeds chose to sign Robles, with Jesse Marsch wanting an older goalkeeper.

The ex-Everton goalkeeper is yet to make his senior debut, but did play for the 21’s against Bolton in the EFL Trophy last month. He has been promoted to the bench above Kristoffer Klaesson in the last two Premier League games.

Speaking to Spanish media, first-choice midfielder Roca was full of praise for his fellow Spaniard. He says that Robles is an “incredible teacher”. He says that the likes of Robles have made his transition “very easy” at Leeds.

“Joel Robles is an incredible teacher. He is here with us, he is contributing everything he can. He is very happy to be with this group, as a Spaniard for me, the transition has been very, very easy with players like Joel at the club.”

Roca: Leeds have incredible teacher in goalkeeper Robles

Robles is a smart signing. Leeds had two young goalkeepers in the form of Illan Meslier and Klaesson and while Meslier is undoubtedly the club’s first-choice, especially after the win over Liverpool – experience was needed.

Bringing in Robles will give Meslier and Klaesson some guidance in terms of Premier League experience. Earned, from his time at Wigan and Everton. But also, he will help bond the Spanish-speaking players at the club.

Roca, Rodrigo, Junior Firpo, Luis Sinisterra and others. He is already seen as well-liked and has apparently overtaken Klaesson between the sticks. A smart move and it would be of no surprise if his contract is not extended.
