Manchester United have confirmed they have released Axel Tuanzebe on a free transfer with his contract set to end on June 30, and he will now be a free agent – with Leeds United interested in a move back in the January window.
Tuanzebe, 25, leaves Manchester United after 37 senior outings for the club, in which he captained the side in the Carabao Cup, and got the better of Kylian Mbappe against PSG in the Champions League. But now, he is set to exit.
It comes after a poor couple of loan spells. A loan at Napoli saw him manage just two outings, while a move to Stoke in the Championship from January to replace Harry Souttar – who went to Leicester – saw him manage five outings.
Little surprise then, that Erik ten Hag’s side have decided not to renew his £48,000-a-week deal. The England U21 man will now be on the lookout for a new club and possibly a Championship move, if he chooses to stay in England.
Back in January, Phil Hay said Leeds were offered Tuanzebe on a loan deal towards the end of the month – after Leeds concluded the loan-to-buy exit of Diego Llorente. It was considered. Now, he is leaving Manchester United.

Leeds could do with another right-sided centre-back. Both Llorente and Robin Koch are more than likely to leave, with 90Min saying talks have been held for Koch – with Manchester United, Brentford, Spurs, Newcastle and Forest.
Tuanzebe then, might emerge as an option. But any signings will only be done after the appointment of a new boss. Charlie Cresswell will come in, but another right-footed centre-back might be a priority and Tuanzebe fits the bill.
